5 Easy Tips and Steps to Start Your Path to Mental Wellness

Have you wanted to take control of your mental health but were overwhelmed and didn’t know how to start? The path to a secure and stable mental health can be very stressful and be a lot for a person to take on. There are a lot of different aspects in a person’s life that can affect their mental health. That’s why in this blog post, we’ll be going over 5 simple tips with steps to start taking care of your mental wellness.

  • #1 Make Self-Care a Priority
    • 7-8 hours of sleep a night.
    • Eat the right foods (good diet).
    • Exercise daily (if not daily, every other day – 20-30 minutes), and see a doctor regularly for checkups.
  • #2  Develop Positive Habits
    • Meditate (Yoga, Breathing Exercises, Mindfulness Apps like Calm).
    • Find a Hobby you like – Hiking, Painting, Gardening – NOT video games!
    • Disconnect from your phone (and other tech) – Shut down the screens and open your eyes to the ACTUAL world!

    • Loved Ones and Friends
    • Clubs, Social Groups (Bowling League, Book Club).
    • Volunteer.

    • If you KNOW you are STRUGGLING with your mental health, find a counselor who can help you!
    • Join a support group (there are some online and in-person – some free and some with a fee).
    • The most critical elements to finding the right therapist are connection and honesty – You MUST feel comfortable with your counselor – to the point of being COMPLETELY honest with them.  If you are not honest, you are wasting your time.

That may seem like a lot of stuff for a person to do and may seem overwhelming, but you don’t have to do them all at once.  Start with one element of one tip, and when you feel ready, add another step to your routine. Mental health can be overwhelming at times, but as long as you stay focused and keep taking steps to help yourself, you are on the right path for mental wellness!
